As part of efforts to tighten it’s immigration policies, the United Kingdom have announced it’s plans to ban foreign students from bringing their families into the United Kingdom while undergoing their academic pursuits there.
The new restrictions will largely stop Nigerian students and students from other countries who are undergoing masters and other post-graduates studies in the United Kingdom from bringing their families into the United Kingdom.
The new restrictions which is set to be announced this week will be announced this week will not affect Ph.D. students because of the longer period of time required to complete their courses and the kind of skills they already possess.
This decision follows the reports that many foreign nationals are moving into the United Kingdom easily because their relative’s student visa which has caused an explosion in the number of immigrants.
It was reported that some Tory MPs have broken cover to call for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to curb the rocketing numbers.
It was reported that students brought 135,788 family members to Britain last year which was nine times more than they did in 2019.
It was also reported that 59,053 Nigerian students brought over 60,923 relatives into the United Kingdom thus forcing them into tightening immigration policies to curb the growth.
