Residents of Ondo town in Ondo West local government area of Ondo state are counting their losses after a devastating rainstorm visited the community after a brief rainfall on Monday night.
The rainstorm which started at about 8pm on Monday destroyed roofs of buildings at streets like Akinmaarin, Alaafiatayo, Oluwalomose, Arowojaye, Adegoju, Awolope and Odojumu areas leaving the inhabitants hopeless.
The rainstorm also ravaged places Oke Odunwo, Okedera, Adegoju, Bethlehem and Odosida which are all Ondo town.
When Climax News Hub visited the affected places, it was discovered that residential buildings, offices, shops, religious centres and other places were torn apart by the rainstorm.
Properties worth several millions of naira were lost to the disaster but no human life was reportedly lost to the incident.
The affected streets may also have to be without power supply for a while as the storm pulled down their poles, tores apart their cables and plunged the entire vicinities into darkness.
Reacting to the incident, the Vice Chairman of the local government council, Mr. Folajimi John described the devastating impacts of the rainstorm in the community and called on relevant agencies to come to their aid at this time of need.
He said “we are calling on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to come to our aids. Odojumu, Oke Odunwo, Okedera, Adegoju, Akinmaarin, Bethlehem, Odosida/ General Road and other parts of Ondo West are seriously in need of the support of everybody now.”
