Senator Godswill Akpabio and Honourable Tajudeen Abbas have been elected as the Senate President and Speaker, Nigeria’s House of Representatives respectively. Their emergence came at the inauguration of the 10th assembly on Tuesday.
Senator Godswill Akpabio who is from Akwa Ibom state polled 63 votes to defeat his rival, Senator Abdulaziz Yari from Zamfara state who polled 46 votes.
Meanwhile, Tajudeen Abbas who is from Kaduna state Abbas amassed 359 votes to defeat his rivals, former Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase and Sani Jaji who got three votes each.
Both Senator Godswill Akpabio and Honourable Tajudeen Abbas were the anointed candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
