In a bid to boost academic performance of students in his constituency, the Member representing Ondo East/West Federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Honourable Abiola Peter Makinde Ph.D, has donated educational materials to primary and secondary school students in the constituency.
During the 8th edition of the annual provision of instructional materials to students held in Ondo town on Monday, the lawmaker distributed items like laptops, projectors, textbooks on different subjects, notebooks, chairs and lockers to students to encourage their academic pursuits.
Speaking on the motive behind the empowerment, the lawmaker, who was recently conferred with a Doctorate Degree in Financial Management at Wesley University, Ondo, revealed his undying desire to be a pillar to people who are in need of support.
“My wife and I, while in our moment of respective struggles, received support at some point which proved to be a turning point in our lives.
“It is part of the reasons we are determined to be pillars of support to others at this time as we had been beneficiaries of such in the time past.
“These students are our tomorrow, No prosperous nation cast kids away. Rather, they are built and made to go through comprehensive education so they can be useful to themselves and the nation in years to come.
“What we have done here at this annual provision of instructional materials to primary and secondary school in my Federal Constituency, is to contribute our quota immensely to the lives of these kids.
“This is also in furtherance of my campaign mantra, WEALTH, which stands for Water, Education, Agriculture, Light, Training, and Health,” he said.
The lawmaker representing Ondo West Constituency 1 at the Ondo state House of Assembly, Otunba Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju commended the lawmaker’s contributions towards the enhancement of education in Ondo East and West local government areas.
Ogunwumiju praised Hon. Abiola Makinde for his dedication towards improving educational facilities in Ondo East and West Federal Constituency, reiterated his personal commitment to the development of Ondo West constituency 1 and the broader advancement of Ondo State and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable development while also applauding him for setting a commendable example.
Otunba Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju also expressed optimism about the continued progress and development in Ondo kingdom, urging other stakeholders to join hands in fostering positive change in the educational landscape of Ondo State.
Some of the beneficiaries of the gesture, while speaking with journalists, expressed their profound gratitude to Honourable Makinde, promising that that they will make judicious use of the items given to them to the advancement of their academics.
Present on the occasion were: wife of the lawmaker, Dr Rhoda Makinde, who is the convener of Dr Rhoda Makinde Initiative (DROMI), Ondo State House of Assembly, Ondo West 1 constituency, Honourable Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju, APC political leaders, Chairman Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and educational stakeholders across the Federal Constituency.
