Nigerians have expressed their disappointment with Super Eagles forward, Sadiq Umar after he played for his Spanish club, Real Sociedad despite leaving the Super Eagles’ African Cup of Nations camp because of claims that he was injured and would be unable to play.
Sadiq, who was ruled out of AFCON on Friday January 12 due to injury, began training with Real Sociedad on Sunday January 14 and Played for Real Sociedad on January 17 in the Copa dey rey.
Many Nigerians who were shocked by Sadiq’s actions questioned his patriotism and expressed their disappointment in how he left the Super Eagles by faking a lengthy injury just to be with his club.
The Social media has been buzzing with reactions of Nigerians who felt let down by Sadiq Umar.
On Facebook, Frank Lekia Jude said “He is not a patriotic citizen of Nigeria 🙆🏽♂”, Similar Isha said “If this guy should come back to the national team , then we will know he has bribe his out and in. The thing again is that Sadiq sef pattern of football is just rubbish. Let him go for good…”, Ogunnowo Oluwaseyi Michael posted “He should never be invited to wear our Jersey ever again”, Haywhy Baba Ilesanmi posted “This is so disrespectful to the Super Eagles 🦅🦅🦅 and the country at large,NFF must not call this guy again”
On X formerly known as Twitter, @chaaliiykay posted “Did Umar Sadiq fake his injury or did the Nigerian medical doctors do a mistake by not properly accessing him before recommending his replacement? It’s just funny to be honest cause he actually played for Real Sociedad last night after being ruled out of the AFCON”, @ziyechman posted “Na only God wey go punish Umar Sadiq, it’s pretty obvious that he f4ked his injury.”, @oladapomikky1 posted “Did Umar Sadiq just play 17 minutes for Real Sociedad? The Super Eagles should never invite him again. He actually just disrespected the whole federation.”
While the expression of disappointment and counter opinions continue, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be in action later today as they face host, Ivory Coast in their second group match with hopes of securing a win that will propel them to a favourable position in the group and boost their qualification hopes.
