The Super Eagles of Nigeria Team B have been knocked out of the ongoing Africa Nation’s Championship (CHAN 2024) after an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Sudan in their second group match on Tuesday.
The Home based Super Eagles led by Coach Eric Chelle lost their first match against Senegal 1-0 and sealed their miserable fate after a terrible display against the Sudanese team in Zanzibar.
Despite being huge favourites to win the encounter, the Super Eagles failed to establish dominance over their opponents in the match as they allowed the Sudanese to create chances which ultimately led to goals in both halves of the match.
An unfortunate own goal by Leeds United bound Nigerian defender Ngenge Leonard in the 25th minute was followed by an unfortunate handball by the defender which led to a penalty which was expertly converted by Sudanese captain, Khidir Walieldin in the 44th minute of the encounter.
The Super Eagles ended the first half with a two goal deficit which only got worse in the second half as the Sudanese quickly bagged to two more goals to take an unassailable lead over an already embarrassed Nigeria team.
Al-Hilal Omdurman of Sudan midfielder, Omer Abdelrazig scored in the 55th and 62nd minute of the match to bury any hope of Nigeria staging a comeback and take his country one step towards confirming their place in the knockout round.
The 4-0 loss automatically meant that Nigeria is out of the competition with five goals conceded and zero goal scored which is an unprecedented occurrence for a powerhouse like Nigeria.
The Super Eagles Team B still has one match to play before they can return to Nigeria. They will be facing Congo DR in what will be a dead rubber for the Nigeria team while their opponent still have a chance to qualify for the knockout stage of the competition.
