The Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) has expressed support for education sector reforms, stating that such changes would raise educational standards in the state.
The association shared its position during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun mainly to congratulate him and to present their position paper on how to move the education sector forward.
The Hon. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun while playing host to them lauded the commitment of the Association to the uplifting the Education sector in Ondo State.
The Commissioned explained that the policy thrust of the Governor is to revamp the educational sector to make it more attractive and to fulfill its mandate in providing quality education to the younger generation.
The commissioner reiterated that plans are underway to hold a stakeholders meeting with all education stakeholders in the state to intimate them on the reform and to get their buy-in into the various reforms in the state.
He also announced that he had met with the parastatals and agencies in the educational sector in order to have education in the state under one roof and to speak with one voice.
He informed the association that the Governor has just approved the construction and rehabilitation of some schools in the state to increase infrastructural development in the secondary schools.
He therefore sought for the collaboration of the association in turning around the education sector of the state.
The president of the Association, Mrs Fadekemi Jogbodo while speaking appreciated the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for appointing the Commissioner to the Education sector describing him as a round peg in a round pole to turn the sector around.
She therefore pledged her association unflinchingly support to the success of the education sector and the administration.
Dr Jogbodo while presenting her position paper called for recruitment of teachers into schools annually, provision of Laboratory to schools, recognition of best teacher and Principal in the state during the Teacher’s Day celebration, Provision of day and Night Guards to schools, elevation of principals to Level 17, recruitment of computer teachers, increment of Tutor Generals in the state from 3 to 9.
