Tragedy struck in Akure as a domestic dispute over ₦800 debt from a tomatoes and peppers transaction led to the death of a middle aged woman in the hands of her younger sister.

According to the Ondo State Police Command, the incident occurred on September 6, 2025, around 8:00 pm.

Preliminary investigations into the tragic incident revealed that the suspect, identified as Iluyemi Bosede, met her 35-year-old sister, Tewogboye Omowumi and demanded the payment of ₦800 for tomatoes and pepper previously purchased.

The discussion escalated into an argument which reportedly escalated further when Bosede held onto Omowumi’s clothes which made the deceased to fall.

She was rushed to hospital for urgent treatment but was confirmed dead on arrival.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the suspect has since been arrested and is in custody while investigations continue.

“This unfortunate outcome underscores how seemingly trivial disputes can spiral into irreversible consequences if not peacefully managed.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, assured residents that justice would be pursued diligently, while urging the public to embrace dialogue and non-violent means in resolving conflicts.
