France and Paris Saint-Germain forward, Ousmane Dembele made history as he won the 2025 Ballon d’Or to cement his place as the best footballer in the world.
He was handed the prestigious award at a ceremony held in Paris on Monday and attended by current and former football superstars from across the world.
Dembele edged out major global football superstars like Lamine Yamal, Vitinha, Mohammed Salah, Rafinha and others to claim the award in his home country.
To get the award, Ousmane Dembele played am important role for his club and country, delivering world-class performances that led to major victories and silverware.
He recorded a remarkable success with his club, Paris Saint-Germain, where he played a pivotal role in helping the French giant complete the treble by winning the French Ligue 1 title, French Cup and their first ever UEFA Champions League title.
He was also named Ligue 1 Player of the Year and top goalscorer in recognition of his goal scoring contributions and overall performance for Paris Saint-Germain in France’s elite football division.
With this latest achievement, Ousmane Dembele becomes the sixth French player to win the award joining an elite club that has legendary footballers like Raymond Kopa, Michel Platini, Jean-Pierre Papin, Zinedine Zidane and Karim Benzema as it’s members.
Meanwhile, other players picked up awards in other categories at the gala.
Spain and FC Barcelona Female team’s Aitana Bonmati won the Ballon d’Or in the female category making her the best female footballer in the world for the third consecutive year.
FC Barcelona and Spain’s wonderkid, Lamine Yamal won the Kopa trophy as the best young player in the world (Male), Vicky Lopez won the Kopa trophy (Female).
Manchester City and Italy’s goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma won the Yacine trophy as the best goalkeeper in the world (male) while Hannah Hampton won the Yacine trophy (female).
Paris Saint-Germain’s Manager, Luis Enrique won the Johan Cruyff Trophy as the Coach of the year in the male category while England’s Female national team Coach, Sarina Wiegman won the award in the female category.
Paris Saint-Germain was named the Men Club of The Year in the male category while Arsenal won the award in the female category.
Arsenal striker, Viktor Gyökeres wins the Gerd Müller trophy in recognition of his goal scoring prowess which makes him the best goal scorer in the world while Ewa Pajor picked up the award in the female category.
The 2025 Socrates Award which recognizes humanitarian services offered for the development of the world was given to the Xana Foundation.
