The Ondo State Government has expressed its readiness to partner with the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, ACSPN, in its bid to ensure media literacy, as well as training and retraining of media workers in the face of emerging realities in the media space.
While hosting the leadership of the association in Ondo State, led by the State Coordinator, Sunday Kolawole, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Àjànàkú, noted the commitment of the Aiyedatiwa administration to the development of media workers’ efficiency and collaboration with every organisation that enhances the realisation of such goal.
“Journalism is strengthened by the intellectual backbone provided through training, and I am delighted that this is what your association stands for. It is therefore a delight to receive you as part of the information and communication firmament of Ondo State. We will collaborate with ACSPN in every way to mutually benefit both Ondo State and the association,” Ajanaku said.
Administrative Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Lanre Akarakiri, lauded the existence of the ACSPN in Ondo State, expressing optimism that the association’s activities would further aid the reduction of media illiteracy and the disturbing rise in quakery threatening to turn journalism into an ‘all-comers-affairs’.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the ACSPN, Mr. Sunday Kolawole, outlined the association’s goals and objectives, including spearheading media training and strengthening collaboration among media professionals and scholars to improve the information space.
He also outlined the association’s plans to host, during the course of the year, a Media Development Dialogue that will bring together media stakeholders to brainstorm on critical issues concerning the media space.
