Anti-xenophobia protesters have taken to the streets of Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban in South Africa to denounce what they describe as growing xenophobia, Afrophobia, violence, exploitation and forced deportations targeting African migrants.

The demonstrations, held under the banner “Operation Ubuntu,” brought together groups calling for greater solidarity among Africans and an end to discrimination against migrants and other vulnerable communities across the continent.

Protesters urged citizens of African countries to unite against what they described as widespread injustices affecting poor and marginalised people, stressing that African solidarity must transcend national borders.

Among the issues highlighted by the demonstrators were xenophobia and Afrophobia, inadequate housing, the alleged exploitation and looting of Africa’s mineral resources, gender-based violence and what they described as a lack of accountability by African governments.

The protesters also called for greater protection of African migrants and an end to policies and practices they believe subject foreigners to violence, exploitation and forced removal from South Africa.

The demonstrators continued to make their demands for justice, equality and stronger African unity under the Operation Ubuntu campaign.
