Super Eagles of Nigeria and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman has been named the winner of the most prestigious award at the Confederations of Africa Football (CAF) Awards in Marrakesh, Morocco on Monday.
The Nigerian forward, who has been the most prolific footballer in the continent during the year under review had countless eye-catching performances for his club and the Super Eagles that placed him above the other candidates.
Ademola Lookman, who helped Atalanta secured their first ever European title by scoring an hatrick in their Europa League final match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen which ended with a 3-0 result for the Italian Serie A club.
He was also on fire for the Super Eagles during their Africa Cup of Nations tournament campaign in Ivory Coast where they were runners up to winner Ivory Coast. Ademola Lookman scored crucial goals which took Nigeria all the way to the final match.
Ademola Lookman was an ever present figure for the Super Eagles during their AFCON 2025 qualifiers where he also scored crucial goals that helped Nigeria secure it’s place in the tournament that will taking place in Morocco next year.
For his club, Ademola Lookman continued to use his dazzling skills to earn them crucial points which has for the first time in the history of the club earned them ten successive wins in the Italian Serie A and placed them serious contender for the league title.
Ademola Lookman, who was a clear favourite to win the award attended the CAF Awards dressed in a green Yoruba agbada and made the country proud on and off the football pitch. He was accompanied to the event by his parents who were also proud of his accomplishments.
The winner of the Player Of The Year award was announced by FIFA President, Gianni Infantino while CAF President Patrice Motsepe presented the award to Ademola Lookman before football royalties present at the ceremony.
Ademola Lookman’s success at the CAF Awards continues Nigeria’s domination of the Men’s category of the Player Of The Year award after Victor Osimhen won the award last year.
Meanwhile, Super Falcons’ goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie was named the best goalkeeper in the women category. She picked up the award for a second year in a row after also winning it in 2023.
Ivory Coast was named the National Of The Year (Men) while Nigeria won the National Team Of The Year (Female) at the ceremony.
Ivory Coast National Team Coach, Emerse Fae won the Coach Of The Year (Men) while TP Mazembe’s Coach Lamia Boumehdi won the Coach Of The Year (Women).
Zambia forward, Babra Banda won the Player Of The Year (Women), South African goalkeeper, Rowen Williams was named the Interclub Player Of The Year and also won the Goalkeeper Of The Year (Men).
