The Super Eagles of Nigeria have secured their place in the second round of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast after coasting to a 1-0 victory over Guinea Bissau on Monday.
The Nigerians secure the victory and qualification courtesy of an own goal scored by Guinea Bissau defender, Opa Sangante in the 36th minute.
Despite several attempts made by the Nigerians to improve the scoreline in their team’s favour, they could not alter the scoreline as they had two strikes from Victor Osimhen and Ola Aina ruled out for handball and offside calls respectively.
The Super Eagles ended up securing a second place finish in group A behind Equitorial Guinea who dismantled host nation, Ivory Coast 4-0 right before their fans. Nigeria and Equitorial Guinea have seven points a piece but the Super Eagles are second on the log because of their inferior goal difference.
Ivory Coast ended up securing a third place finish after picking up three points from three group matches and will have to wait and hope that results in other group matches favour them else they will be knocked out of the competition.
