Ondo State Acting Governor, Honourable Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has urged the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Works to take steps towards transforming the ever busy Ore-Ondo-Akure expressway into a dual carriage.
He made this call on Friday when he hosted the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi in his office in Akure who was in the State as part of his ongoing assessment of federal roads and projects.
Aiyedatiwa urged the Federal Government to consider the economic benefits and safety of road users as they take steps towards constructing roads.
The Acting Governor informed the minister that the State has not really witnessed substantial federal presence over the past years, particularly in the areas of infrastructures.
“it may interest you to note that, there are a few federal roads running through the state from north to south and east to west namely Ita Ipele-Idoani-Kabba, Oke Oka-Supare, Akure -Owo-Ifon-Benin, Ore-Okitipupa-Igbokoda, Akure-Ondo-Ore, Akure-Ikere and Igbara Oke-Ibuji-Ondo/Ekiti State boundary.”
“Some of these roads either deteriorated or left poorly maintained while many have suffered several degradations”.
Aiyedatiwa admitted that the State Government has been maintaining federal roads in the state despite their struggle with resources and added that the state needs the immediate attention of the federal government to put an end to the menace caused by the roads.
“Specifically, there is the urgent need to upgrade and dualized the Ore-Ondo-Akure road. Similarly, there is the need to rehabilitate the Ore-Okitipupa-Igbokoda axis which has become a death trap and also expedite action on the ongoing Akure-Ikere road.”
Senator David Umahi revealed that his decision to visit the state was to examine the condition of roads as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is concerned about completing projects awarded by his predecessor.
“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is solely committed to advancing the country with more quality infrastructures and sustainable development.
“We are establishing enduring legacies within the road sector as we want all of us to be part of the supervision while construction job is going.”
