Anthony Joshua set for Whyte heavyweight showdown

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is set for a heavyweight match showdown against British rival Dillian Whyte at London’s O2 Arena on August 12.

With talks between Joshua and WBC champion, Tyson Fury over a potential fight not going as planned, the British-Nigerian has accepted a clash with Dillian Whyte.

It will be a rematch between the pair and opportunity for Anthony Joshua to further dominate Whyte, who he defeated in a heated British and Commonwealth title clash in 2015 to avenge a loss he suffered when they met as amateurs.

Dillian Whyte will also be hoping to avenge that loss and announce his return to the elite by claiming victory over Joshua.

Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn said “The rivalry runs deep and there is something about these two where they will never back down from each other.”

Speaking ahead of the showdown, Joshua relished the opportunity to go up against Dillian Whyte and revealed that his plan is to stay active and be ready to fight.

He said “I have been clear that my plan is to be active this year. August 12 is the date, I’ll be ready to fight. I look forward to dealing with business.”

Dillian Whyte considers the fight the ultimate clash that will decide who is a better boxer between the pair.

“I’m looking forward to returning to the London O2 on August 12 and going to war. It’s 1-1, so this is the decider.”
