Abductors of the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in ward five of Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, have cut short his life.
Adepoyigi, who was kidnapped last week while going to his farm at Ifon has been reportedly killed by his abductors after they had received a five million naira payment for his freedom.
The kidnappers, who had reportedly demanded a ransom of N100 million later reduced it to five million naira which had been arranged be when things took a twist when the kidnappers abducted the two persons who had brought the money to them.
The kidnappers, thereafter, demanded another thirty million naira ransom to release the three victims but only the two ransom bearers were reportedly released on Friday night.
Ondo Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, revealed that he was yet to confirm the killing or release of the victims.
However, the Chairman of Ose Local Government, Clement Kolapo Ojo, revealed that the two volunteers had regained their freedom but Adepoyigi was not lucky enough to return home alive.
He said “The entire leadership and people of Ose Local Government mourn this tragic loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased”.
“His dedication to the progress of our party and the grassroots community will be forever remembered and honoured.”
“We are at a critical juncture where security challenges have become a serious threat to the safety and freedom of our people. Only a few days before this incident, another resident narrowly escaped being kidnapped while parking his motorcycle.”
“This pattern of brazen abductions, even at the very gates of people’s homes, confirms that insecurity has taken a dangerous and intolerable dimension.”
