Spanish league leaders, FC Barcelona and French Ligue 1 Champions, Paris Saint Germain secured their spots in this season’s UEFA Champions League semi-final despite losing their matches against Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa respectively on Tuesday.

Both teams had won their first leg encounters with healthy leads at their own stadia before embarking on trips to Germany and England respectively for their second leg clashes. While FC Barcelona secured a 4-0 victory over Dortmund, Paris Saint Germain defeated Aston Villa 3-1 in France.

In the second leg encounters, Borussia Dortmund thrashed FC Barcelona 3-1 with Sehou Guirassy bagging an hatrick and Aston Villa defeated Paris Saint Germain 3-2 at Villa Park on Tuesday night.

While FC Barcelona secured a 5-3 aggregate victory over Dortmund, PSG managed a slim 5-4 victory over Aston Villa to ensure they move to the next stage of the competition at their hosts’ expense.

Meanwhile, Arsenal FC will be facing off with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium later tonight with the English club boasting a 3-0 lead over the Spanish and European football giant.

Real Madrid will be tasked with the challenge of turning the 3-0 deficit around against an Arsenal side that dominated them when they met at the Emirates Stadium for the first leg encounter last week.

FC Bayern Munich will also be in action in Italy with the Bavarians looking to turn their first leg 2-1 home defeat around against Serie A Champions, Inter Milan.

The home side will also be hoping to maintain or add to their victory in order to edge out the German Bundesliga’s most successful team and book their own place in the last four of Europe’s most prestigious club football competition.
