Nigerians’ hopes of seeing Victor Boniface play for the Super Eagles at the African Cup of Nations set to take place in Ivory Coast have been shattered as the Bayer Leverkusen Forward has been ruled out with a groin injury.
Boniface, who is expected to be out for six weeks with the injury and will not be back in time to play any part in Nigeria’s quest to win a fourth African Cup of Nations trophy.
This latest injury adds to the growing list of Super Eagles stars who are unavailable for the tournament because of injury. With the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi, Wifred Ndidi and others already out, the news of Boniface’s injury will hurt Nigerian football supporters who are hoping he will replicate his dazzling form for Leverkusen in the green and white jerseys of the Super Eagles.
Boniface is expected to stay in Germany for treatment and could be out for about six weeks.
