The leaders of South-East Asian nations, Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to initiate an immediate and unconditional ceasefire after breakthrough in peace talks to deescalate tensions between both countries.
Malaysia’s leader Anwar Ibrahim revealed that the ceasefire would take effect from midnight local time claiming that the step was necessary to restore peace and security in both countries.
According to reports, at least thirty-three lives have have lost and thousands displaced since fighting began on 24 July after years of tensions between both countries.
US President Donald Trump claimed to be the brain behind the ceasefire after claiming he asked both nations end the fighting as a pre-condition to their trade talks with the United States of America.
The dispute between the countries has been on for over one hundred years when their borders were drawn and this latest ceasefire agreement can produce a lasting peace for both countries on the contentious issue.
