Operatives of the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Friday, July 25, 2025 arrested 32 suspected internet fraudsters.
They were arrested in Sabon Kaura and Gwalameji areas of Bauchi, Bauchi State capital following credible intelligence that linked them to fraudulent internet activities.
Items recovered from them include: nine Samsung mobile phones, 15 iPhones, one infinix phone, three Redmi phones, two iPads, one Peugeot 406 car, two Playstation 4, one PlayStation 5, four Neonx Auto bike, eight laptop computers, one Maxi E50KWH generator and one pistol.
Meanwhile, the Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, July 25, 2025 secured the conviction and sentence of two fake investigators of EFCC: Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman before Justice Nasiru Saminu of the Kano State High Court.
The duo were arraigned on a one-count charge for falsely parading themselves as investigators of the EFCC. The charge specifically stated that they used a forged EFCC Identity Card in a desperate bid to lend credibility to their fraudulent impersonation, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.
The charge read “That you Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman sometime in May 2025 at Kano within the jurisdiction of this honourable court falsely impersonated to be investigators of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) where you used false identity card and paraded yourselves as staff of EFCC and you thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code law.
Upon arraignment, the defendants pleaded “guilty’’ to the charge.
In light of their guilty pleas, prosecution counsel, Idris I. Haruna presented the facts of the case and urged the court to convict them accordingly.
Consequently, Justice Saminu convicted Abdullahi and Usman based sentenced them to six(6) months imprisonment with an option of a fine of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) each.
