Why Federal Government palliatives may not alleviate hardship in Nigeria – EYC

The Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been warned that palliatives provided by the government to help alleviate the suffering of the masses may not reach their intended targets unless more effective methods are employed.

This warning was given by the president of Ekimogun Youths Connect, Comrade Famakinwa Lucaskakaki in an interview with Kaftan TV on Tuesday.

Comrade Famakinwa aligned himself with the view of the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) who insisted that politicians cannot be trusted to deliver palliatives to the masses during this critical period.

“I boldly support the organized labour that the N5bn largess will benefit the politicians more than the masses. The rich will become richer, and the poor will be poorer.

“Politicians and not the poor will benefit more from the N5bn given to each state government as palliative for the masses.”

He added that the Federal Government should take steps immediately to ensure that funds are properly utilized to reduce hardship faced by the masses and rebuild the country’s economy.

“The Federal Government should work with financial institutions to send money directly to the masses who need it most.

“It will be embarrassing if after spending billions of naira to cushion the effects of subsidy removal, the masses are still dying of hunger.

“Focus more on our refineries, patronize local made products, and stabilize our naira, he advised.”
