Arsenal Football Club’s management, players and fan base were left heartbroken as Manchester City defeated their local rival, Tottenham Hotspurs in an English Premier League clash on Tuesday night.
The Gunners who were depending on their local rival to help them take points off Manchester City in the match in order to bolster their chances of winning the league were disappointed as Erling Haaland scored twice to hand the Citizens a 2-0 victory in the clash.
Prior to the match, Arsenal were leading Manchester City on the Premier League table with a single point and had superior goal difference. They knew that a win or draw for Tottenham against Manchester City will guarantee them the title if they beat Everton on the final day.
Their hopes were bolstered as Tottenham were able to hold Manchester City to a barren draw in the first forty-five minutes and had chances to have taken the lead.
However, all that changed in the second half as Manchester City increased the tempo and were rewarded in the 51st minute as Erling Haaland collected a Kevin De Bruyne’s pass inside the box and scored into an open goal to hand his team the lead.
Arsenal’s hopes of a comeback been staged by Tottenham Hotspurs were shattered in the 90th minute when Pedro Porro brought down Jeremy Doku in the box. Erling Haaland stepped up and sent the ball past Guglielmo Vicario to increase the tally to 2-0.
Manchester City held on and secured a 2-0 victory which extends their lead over Arsenal to two points and marked the first time they have beaten Tottenham Hotspurs at their new stadium.
With the victory, the pendulum has swung in Manchester City’s favour as they will win the league for an unprecedented fourth time in a row if they manage to defeat Westham United on the final day of the season even if Arsenal defeats Everton in their own clash.
