As part of activities to celebrate the 33rd convocation of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, a novelty match was held between the graduating students and the compatriots who are still students of the institution.

The novelty match between the current members of FUTA Tigers and former members of the Team was played on Tuesday 14th November 2023 at the sports ground of the Federal University of Technology Akure.

The highly entertaining encounter ended in a 2 -2 draw with honours shared between the two sides.

In the opening minutes of the first half, the ex-Tiger’s opened scoring through Adeoba Olalekan. The Ex Tigers dominated possession in the first 20minutes of the match but the possession soon swung to their opponents’ favour.

In the 40th minute of the match, Ajani Nifemi of the Applied Geo Physics department converted a stunning spot kick to make the draw the Tigers level. The scores remained unchanged until the referee blew his whistle for half-time.

The institution’s Taekwondo team added fun to the event at half time with their outstanding display of their Taekwondo skills which thrilled the spectators and spiced the atmosphere for the second stanza which followed.

The second half unfolded with the FUTA Tigers still dominating, however the Ex Tigers got an opportunity to score a second goal from a counter attack in the 53rd minute by the same Adeoba Olalekan.

The FUTA Tigers unrelentingly pushed forward and later got rewarded in the 79th minute with a second goal coming from Akande Sobu of the meteorological and Climate Science department.

The Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji, in her remark after the match described the encounter as a very entertaining one and encouraged the FUTA sports council to organize more competition of such nature.

She admired the passion displayed by the Ex-players of Team FUTA and the zeal shown by the FUTA Tigers. She congratulated both teams for exhibiting good sportsmanship.
