There was tension and confusion in Ikeja area of Lagos State on Tuesday as a helicopter belonging to a hospitality company crashed into a building and immediately got engulfed by fire.

The incident which happened opposite AP fuel station, close to a branch of the United Bank for Africa in the Oba Akran area of the state capital caught everyone unaware as the helicopter suddenly rammed through the busy road before hitting the building.

The sudden crash and the fire sent people around the vicinity scampering for safety as they could not understand what had caused the sudden crash and fire. However, they were able to regroup in large number at the crash site.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency, the helicopter belongs to Air first Hospitality and Tour Limited and had the Registration number – 5NCCQ.

The Acting Coordinator of NEMA for South-West Zonal Office, Ibrahim Farinloye said “There were two people on board. The control tower confirmed that there were only two people on board, not four. Three craters on the spot created by impacts on the ground.”

NEMA also disclosed that responders are searching for flight data recorder, cockpit recorder and Cospas-Sarsat beacon at the site of helicopter crash.

“We are searching for flight data recorder, cockpit recorder and Cospas Sarsat beacon,” , said over two hours after the crash.
