Housewife Lands In Court For Allegedly Stealing A Goat

A 35-year-old housewife, Sarah Gideon, has been arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a goat.

She was arraigned in court on Thursday, July 10, 2025 for allegedly stealing a goat in the Narayi area of the state.

She is facing a one-count charge of stealing, an offence she allegedly committed on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

The prosecuting officer, Inspector Sunday Luka, informed the court that the complainant, Martins Bobai, alleged that the Sarah Gideon untied the goat while working in a nearby farm

Luka stated that the goat was tied outside the complainant’s house and the defendant was dragging the goat away when a neighbour who saw her and raised the alarm, leading to her arrest.

According to Luka, the offence contravenes Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017, which prescribes a penalty of seven years imprisonment upon conviction for stealing.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and in his ruling, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned to August 14, 2025, for hearing.
