Premier League leader, Liverpool Football Club regained their twelve points lead at the top of the league standings after securing an hard-fought victory over Everton FC in a keenly contested derby at Anfield on Wednesday night.

The Reds, who had seen their lead reduced to nine points after their closest rival, Arsenal secured a 2-1 victory over Fulham sealed the win over Everton courtesy of a sensational strike by their Portuguese forward, Diogo Jota.

The match played under the Anfield lights was keenly contested by both sides with the Reds pushing for a win against a resolute Everton that was solid defensively and dangerous on the counter.

Everton FC had a goal chalked-off in the first half after their Portuguese forward, Beto was offside during the build up to the goal. Beto also missed another opportunity to put Everton ahead when his shot beat Liverpool goalkeeper but came back after hitting the post.

Liverpool eventually took the lead in the 57th minute when Diogo Jota collected a James Tarkowski’s miskick and dribbled through Everton’s defense before unleashIng an unstoppable shot past an helpless Jordan Pickford who could not stop the shot.

With the win, Liverpool FC regained their twelve points lead over Arsenal. They now need thirteen more points from their eight remaining matches to win the Premier League for a record-equalling 20th time.

Everton FC’s manager, David Moyes expressed dissatisfaction with the goal scored by Liverpool to win the match claiming that it should have been disallowed for offside.

David Moyes claimed that Luis Diaz, who was in offside position interfered with play which made James Tarkowski miskick the ball to Diogo Jota and the goal should not stand.

In other matches, Manchester City returned to the top four with a 2-0 win over Leicester City, Bournemouth lost at home Ipswich Town, Newcastle United defeated Brentford, Brighton lost at home to Aston Villa and Southampton drew Crystal Palace at Saint Mary’s Stadium.
