Super Eagles of Nigeria forward, Ademola Lookman was on fire on Wednesday night as his Italian club, Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League Final.
Lookman who played every minute of the match scored three well taken goals that inflicted a painful defeat on Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella’s undefeated Bayer Leverkusen in Dublin.
Bayer Leverkusen, who came into the match as an overwhelming favourite to win the Europa League trophy after their performance throughout the season were shocked as they went behind in the 12th minute after Ademola Lookman scored from a Davide Zappacosta’s cross.
The lead was soon extended by the Italian side in the 26th minute as Lookman picked up a lose ball outside Leverkusen’s penalty area, nutmegged an opposing player before curling an unstoppable effort past goalkeeper Matej Kovar.
Even though Bayer Leverkusen increased the tempo and created several chances to drag themselves back into the match, another exquisite goal from Ademola Lookman in the 75th minute sealed their fate and condemned them to their first defeat of the season.
Ademola Lookman became the first footballer to score an hat-trick in a UEFA Europa League final and helped Atalanta win their first continental title in their first appearance in a continental final.
