NAFDAC Enforces Ban on Small-Size Alcoholic Beverages in Port Harcourt

NAFDAC Is intensifying efforts to ensure the enforcement of the ban on alcoholic beverages below 200ml in the country.

Targeting major distributors at Rumuokoro Market in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the agency took another step that the ban on the alcoholic products is effective in the major cities and across the country.

During the raid, hundreds of cartons of sachet and PET bottle alcohol were discovered in two shops. Traders, however, resisted attempts to evacuate the products, forcing NAFDAC to place them on HOLD.

The ban announced in February 2024, followed a five-year grace period granted to manufacturers in 2018 to phase out production. This federal directive, developed in consultation with stakeholders, aims to safeguard public health, particularly among young Nigerians.

The agency promised that it will continue to mop up banned products in markets, supermarkets, and street vendors.

It threatened that manufacturers still producing these beverages risk severe penalties as the Agency remains committed to protecting public safety.
