NAFDAC has called on youths and adolescents to resist the temptation of drug abuse and embrace positive values for a healthier future.

This message was delivered by the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, during the inauguration of the NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club (NCSC) at Community Secondary School, Okpuno, Awka.

Represented by Pharm Louis Chinweike Madubuattah, the NAFDAC State Coordinator in Anambra, Prof. Adeyeye emphasised that NCSC is part of NAFDAC’s grassroots strategy to combat drug abuse and fake products by educating and empowering young students.

The agency urged students to serve as agents of change by sharing accurate information about NAFDAC’s regulatory activities and promoting healthy living.

“Our mission is to mould a future generation empowered to be upright and demand uprightness from others.”

The re-establishment of NCSC in secondary schools is expected to foster collaboration between teachers and students to “Catch Them Young” and prevent lives of addiction.

Highlighting the dangers of drug abuse, Prof. Adeyeye warned of its impact, including drug dependence, poor judgment, and mental health disorders.

She also noted that 14.3 million Nigerians suffer from drug abuse, a growing public health concern.

The NAFDAC team, warmly received by the school’s principal, Mrs. Maureen Onwuemenam, appointed Mrs. Chioma Agina and Mrs. Immaculata Nwankwo as facilitators of the club to drive this important mission forward.
