The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has announced the annulment of the chairmanship election in Ondo West Local Government Area after the discovery of an incorrect logo on ballot papers used for the election.
The affected party whose logo was not correct on the ballot papers used for the Saturday Chairmanship election is the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The Chairman of ODIEC, Dr. Joseph Aremo made the announcement during a press conference in Akure on Saturday where he revealed that the election would be rescheduled for Sunday.
Aremo explained that the issue with the logo was brought to the commission’s attention which led to the decision to re-conduct the election for the chairmanship position between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The ODIEC Chairman emphasized the commission’s commitment to holding a transparent and fair election, stating that the erroneous use of the outdated NNPP logo had been identified. As a result, the original election was deemed void.
“We expected the party to notify us earlier, but we have decided to cancel the chairmanship election in Ondo West in order to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all parties,” Aremo said.
For the rescheduled election, the correct logo of the NNPP will be displayed on the ballot paper. Aremo assured that all necessary preparations would be in place by 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
