The Local Government elections in Ondo State earlier slated for December 16, 2023 as been postponed by the Ondo state Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) to February 17, 2024.
This was announced during a stakeholders meeting held by the Chairman of the commission, Mr. Joseph Aremo on Friday.
According to the chairman, the decision to postpone the election was made because of the non-compliance of seventeen political parties to participate in the elections.
The postponement will have significant impacts on activities leading to the Local Government elections. Parties are expected to have conducted their primaries by August 10, 2023 while the campaign by political parties will end midnight of February 15, 2024.
