The Ondo State House of Assembly has elected Hon. Oladiji Olamide who is representing Ondo East Constituency as the new Speaker of the House while Prince Abayomi Babatunde Akinruntan from Ilaje Constituency was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th assembly.
Both legislators were nominated and subsequently elected into the positions by their colleagues today at the inauguration ceremony of the 10th Assembly at the House of Assembly complex, Alagbaka, Akure.
The motion for the nomination of Oladiji Olamide as Speaker was moved by the Lawmaker representing Ifedore constituency, Temitope Akomolafe and seconded by the Lawmaker representing Ondo West constituency 2, Abiola Oladapo.
Prince Abayomi Akinruntan was nominated to occupy the position of Deputy Speaker by the Lawmaker representing Idanre Constituency, Princess Oluwatosin Ogunlowo.
The Speaker and the Deputy Speaker took Oaths of office which was conducted by the Clerk of the House. Other members of the house also took their oaths of allegiance which was conducted by the new Speaker in accordance with the constitution.
Addressing the 10th Assembly as it’s new Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, appreciated his colleagues for the confidence the have in him and praised the state Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his strong leadership qualities.
He also thanked the Ondo State APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin and other party leaders for their overwhelming support and promised to display true leadership in the position he is going to be occupying.
He said “to my colleagues, this victory is for all of us, by electing me as the Speaker, you have demonstrated to the world that our legislators are living up to the dreams and aspiration. I pledge to you my colleagues that there will be a smooth relationship between the legislative and the executive arms of government in order for us to achieve success”.
