The Ondo Ekimogun Diaspora Forum (OEDF), a league of Ondo sons and daughters in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, held an e-meeting on Tuesday 21st May 2024.
During the meeting, they urged the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to consider Hon. Ifedayo Akinsoyinu as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, Hon. Dotun Adebayo, the President of the association, congratulated His Excellency Alfred Agboola Ajayi, the winner of the just concluded PDP governorship primary, and the entire PDP family in Ondo State for a well-conducted primary.
He eulogized the effort put in place by the party and concluded that the party was ready to take over the reign of governance of Ondo State.
As part of the release, the group expressed their support for the candidature of Hon Ifedayo Akinsoyinu as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party. They emphasized his political pedigree, deep knowledge of Ondo State government, statewide grassroots political spread, and acceptability as reasons for their support.
They also highlighted Akinsoyinu’s political experience, starting as a councillor and rising to become the Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, as well as his service under many civilian Governors of Ondo State starting with the late Ambassador Bamidele Olumilua and served at different capacities until 2019.
He’s today one of the longest-serving members of the Houses of Assembly in Nigeria. There wouldn’t have been a better quality of choosing a Deputy Governor than his if the prerequisite knowledge of the job is what is required. They described his experience in the politics of Ondo as unmatched and emphasized his character as a loyal politician.
The group urged the Ondo State PDP to strive to make a difference by picking a homegrown politician who can complement the popularity and political reach of His Excellency Agboola Ajayi.
They stated that this election is a must-win for the PDP and the people of Ondo State and compared the APC’s performance negatively, emphasizing their failure to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Additionally, the group advised the people of Ondo State not to be deterred by the current level of economic woes in the country and Ondo State, in particular, and expressed optimism for a better future.
