A pastor, Friday Okeneji has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Ondo State Magistrate Court sitting in Akure for stealing some chemical substances worth N130,000.
Okeneji, who is a pastor of a popular church in Iwaro Oka Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo state was said to have committed the offence on July 2, 2023, in the town.
The pastor reportedly broke into a chemical shop and stole the items and was subsequently arrested and charged to court for stealing.
In court, the pastor pleaded guilty when the charges were read. He pleaded for leniency from the court as he claimed to have committed the crime out of desperation to survive.
Okeneji told the court that his lack of a stable means of livelihood and the desperation to pay the sum N150,000 for his mother’s burial pushed him into committing the offens
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni ruled that the pastor was guilty of the charges and subsequently sentenced him to two years imprisonment with an option of N100,000 fine.
