The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Ondo State, Hon. Omoyofunmi Segun and his team visited the Ondo City Sports Complex in Ondo town to assess the poor state of the facility.
He made the visit on Thursday in response to the demands of youths under the umbrella of Ekimogun Youths Connect (EYC) on the need to address the poor state of the state-owned sporting facility.
Ekimogun Youths Connect (EYC) had presented a report to the commissioner in a meeting in Akure where they drew the attention of the state government to the poor state of the facility.
The report, presented to the commissioner by the President of Ekimogun Youths Connect, Comrade Famakinwa Lucaskakaki covered a seven point agenda that addressed important issues in the community.
During the visit, Comrade Lucaskakaki and the Stadium Organizer, Mrs. Adekunle Ajanaku led the Honourable Commissioner through the stadium, highlighting the major issues discussed at their recent meeting in Akure.
Among the areas inspected by the commissioner were the dilapidated pavilion roof, the broken pavilion chairs, the damaged track and field, the neglected administrative block and the overgrown bush that has taken over the entire stadium.
After the inspection, Hon. Omoyofunmi expressed deep concern over the current state of the complex and reaffirmed his commitment to the immediate rehabilitation of the stadium.
He commended Ekimogun Youths Connect for their proactive leadership and unwavering focus on developmental issues rather than personal gains.
He said “I see hope in this youth body. This is the kind of partnership we want where youth groups demand development with sincerity and vision.”
In his remarks, Comrade Lucaskakaki appreciated the Commissioner for his swift response to the report that was presented to him.
“This act of responsiveness and sincerity will not go unnoticed. We believe the completion of this stadium will bring joy to Ekimogun youths, we assure the Commissioner and the state government that our people will not forget this gesture. We will reciprocate it in our own way.”
