As the news about the potential relocation of the University of Medical Sciences from Ondo town to the state capital, Akure continue to spread and gain momentum, youths in the community have shown their displeasure towards the idea of moving the institution out of the community.
The youths under the umbrella of Ekimogun Youths Connect made this displeasure known in a statement signed by their president, comrade Famakinwa Lucaskakaki where they called on all well-meaning indigenes of the community to help handle the problems fueling the relocation plan.
It read “the Ekimogun Youths Connect secretariat was briefed on Sunday 14th May 2023 that the Executive Governor of Ondo H.E Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has vowed to relocate the University of Medical Sciences Ondo City to Akure if the land dispute continues to persist.”
“we were unable to verify the authenticity of this statement from Mr Governor but a source also made us understand that an official letter was sent to the Osemawe of Ondo kingdom and the Ondo Development Committee regarding the said issue.”
“we hereby request clarification from the Ondo Development Committee (ODC) regarding this issue. If the statement is true, then we make bold to call on our fathers, well-meaning sons and daughters of Ondo kingdom to rise and take giant steps to retain UNIMED in Ondo City.”
They dded that “Governor Olusegun Mimiko, who was Governor for eight good years has done his best to establish this school in Ondo and our negligence should not take away our inheritance from us. Ondo Youths will not forgive our leaders forever if this great and award winning university is taken away because we have been reliably informed that the matter is what our leaders can handle. A stitch in time saves nine.”
