Youths in Ondo town in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State have threatened to embark on protest if the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) continues to fail in it’s duty to supply electricity to residents of the community.
The youths who are frustrated by the continued failure of the distribution company to improve power supply in the community made this known in a statement made available by the umbrella body of youths in the community.
According to the statement signed by the President, Ondo Ekimogun Youths Congress (OEYC) Kayode Folajogun, youths in the community have continued to explore every avenue to negotiate with the electricity distribution company on how to end the poor power supply but will take to the street if no resolution is found soon.
The statement read “Following the last meeting held with the Branch Manager of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), it is regrettable to inform the good people of Ondo Kingdom that there has been no visible improvement in electricity supply, contrary to the assurances earlier given.
“In view of this development, the Committee of Chiefs on Electricity, in collaboration with the youth body and led by the President of the Ondo Kingdom Youth Congress (OEYC), Engr. Kayode Folajogun, will be holding a final meeting with the management of BEDC tomorrow by 3:00 p.m. to once again demand an urgent and lasting solution to the persistent power challenges confronting the Kingdom.
“However, should this last engagement fail to yield meaningful improvement, the leadership wishes to inform the public that the entire youth of Ondo Kingdom may be compelled to embark on a peaceful protest to express their dissatisfaction over the continued poor electricity supply in the Kingdom.
“In the meantime, we appeal to all youths and residents of Ondo Kingdom to exercise a little more patience and remain calm as efforts are being intensified to resolve this critical issue in the overall interest of the Kingdom.”
