An Ondo born tourism mongul Otunba Wanle Akinboboye popularly called The Builder, Founder and CEO of La campagne Tropicana Resorts Worldwide has presented some football teams cheques worth a million naira.
The beneficiaries were the football teams who came first,second and third in the just concluded Inter street football competition organized by Destination Ondo, an affiliate of La campagne Tropicana Resorts
Destination Ondo Inter street football competition which commenced about three years ago is organized to discover home grown players and project them for international recognition.
This year 2024 edition started with about sixteen street sides on the pitch with only two making it to the final. Third place clash was played a day before the grand finale which held at Adeyemi federal university football stadium with Otunba himself on ground to witness the overwhelmingly impressive game
Speaking during the presentation, Ondo Ekimogun youths Congress president, Comr Kayode Folajogun lauded Otunba Wanle Akinboboye for curating and fully supporting the wonderful initiative which is to scout indigenous football talents from Ondo kingdom.
He said that the cash gifts presented are to encourage the players and also show that their efforts are worthwhile. He charged them to key into the vision of the Builder by growing themselves into enviable career footballers
The winner, Okedasa street Fc went home with a cheque of 500,000 naira, while the first and second runners up got 300,000 and 200,000 respectively. The prizes were presented by Mr Kofi Victor and other key representatives from La Campagne Tropicana Hills Resort and Cave, Ondo City
It was a celebration in profusion as the three teams could not hide their joy. They thanked Otunba Wanle Akinboboye for putting this together and being a man of his words by fulfilling the promise he made at the outset of the competition weeks ago.
The players prayed ardently to God for his continuous blessings and protection upon the Ondo illustrious son.
This year football competition marked the third edition of the annual program which also goes along side Asun Carnival, an internationally recognized cultural show sponsored by Motherland Beckons a subsidiary of La campagne Tropicana Initiative.
The Destination Ondo Prize and Awards Giving Night was held at Yaba-Ondo office of the organization.
