The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two pastors, Prophet Bassey Umoren and Prophet Elijah Anietie for possessing ritual items and children’s photographs in their churches.
The discovery has sparked outrage and concern in the Rumunduru community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed that some youths from the community, led by their leader, Henry Worlu, apprehended the pastors and handed them over to the police.
According to reports, the pastors are founders of God’s Deliverance Apostolic Church and Power House of Glory International Gospel Church.
“This case, which has been trending on social media, involves two pastors reported by youths of Rumunduru community,” Iringe-Koko stated while parading the suspects at the State Police Command headquarters in Port Harcourt.
“The youths brought the suspects, Prophet Umoren Bassey and Prophet Elijah Anietie, both of Akwa Ibom State origin, and handed them over to the police for discreet investigation,” the PPRO added.
Items recovered during the operation included small caskets, monkey skulls, carved skeletons, spiritual books, wooden skulls, crosses, and photographs—some of which were of children. These unsettling discoveries have raised serious concerns about the nature of the pastors’ activities and potential victims involved.
Iringe-Koko assured the public that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the pastors’ actions. The police are working to determine whether these items were linked to any criminal activities or harm to individuals.
