Two members of the State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have announced their defection from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State.
The lawmakers, Eugene Inegbeboh representing Igueben Constituency and Andrew Uzamere of Ovia II Constituency announced their defection on Friday.
With this move, the PDP’s representation in the ninth Assembly has been reduced to four seats, while the ruling APC has a clear majority with 20 lawmakers.
APC Chairman in the state, Jarrett Tenebe, welcomed the defectors at the APC secretariat in Benin City and described their decision to join the ruling party as a sign of the growth of the party in the state.
He added that “We are one family. The same honour and expectations accorded to long-standing members are equally extended to you.”
“Your coming is a reinforcement of what we stand for. We are welcoming two proven leaders whose experience will further enrich our party’s vision and grassroots reach.
“Let us all take today as a reminder that the strength of the APC lies not just in our numbers, but in our unity, our discipline and our shared belief in a better Edo.
“As a party, we urged all Edo citizens to continue to give our governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the full support and enabling environment he needs to implement his people-centred programs.”
