The Lagos Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old man, Jude Onouha, suspected to be the kingpin of a gang that specializes in disguising as security operatives to vandalize vehicles across estates in Lagos.
According to a statement by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, on Saturday, September 20, the suspects allegedly gained entry into estates by wearing fake uniforms and carrying a Mercedes-Benz car jack modified to resemble a firearm.
According to the police, the gang successfully deceived estate security agents by pretending to be conducting checks while actually targeted high-end vehicles such as Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650, Mercedes-Benz, and other SUVs.
They then systematically vandalized the vehicles while stealing vital components such as brainboxes, side mirrors, tapping glasses, wiring systems, and control devices.
According to the police, recovered items from the gang included a Mercedes-Benz car jack and a face cap with the inscription Special Force which they used to facilitate their disguise.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a security operative before granting them access into their properties.
