Spanish football giant, Real Madrid CF have been knocked out of Spanish Cup competition, Copa dey rey after suffering a 4-2 loss against city rival Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Thursday night.
The Los Blancos, who won the Spanish Super Cup have conquering both Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona in Saudi Arabia failed to progress in the domestic cup competition after having their wings clipped by a Diego Simeone led Atletico who got their revenge.
The match ended with a 2-2 scoreline after regulation time but Atletico Madrid scored two extra time goals to seal a memorable win over a team that has constantly knocked them of cup competitions over the past few years.
Atletico Madrid secured the win and progress of goals from Samuel Lino, Alvaro Morata, Antoine Griezmann and Rodrigo Riquelme. Real Madrid got their goals courtesy of an own goal by Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, Jan Oblak and a spectacular header by Joselu.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona secured qualification to the next round of the competition after a 3-1 victory of lower league side, Unionists. Even though the Catalans fell behind in the 31st minute after an Alvaro Gomez goal, they were able to stage a comeback thanks to goals from Ferran Torres, Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde.
