Three residents were reportedly killed with others sustained various degrees of injuries when suspected armed robbers attacked banks in Ikere-Ekiti, headquarters of Ikere local government area of Ekiti State on Wednesday.
The the community and launched a violent and bloody attack on two old generation banks during the working hours. They reportedly blew off the main doors of the banks with explosive devices suspected and gained access into the banking halls.
The robbers reportedly shot indiscriminately and successfully mounted a roadblock in a desperate move to ensure that their mission was accomplished without the intervention of security forces.
During the operation which reportedly lasted for around thirty minutes, gunshots fired by armed robbers reportedly hit some residents which led to the number of casualties reported. The robbers were able to escape through the Ado-Akure road after the operation.
Speaking on the incident, the spokesman of the Ekiti State Police Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, confirmed the development and assured everyone that the police have swung into as action to ensure justice is served accordingly and lives are protected.
He said “It was an attempted robbery but they were repelled. Even our men and officers of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) gave them a hot chase.
“The police have swung into action, I want to assure you that they will be arrested.”
