Spanish and European football giant, Football Club Barcelona suffered an upset on Tuesday as they were beaten 1-0 at the Volksparkstadion by Ukrainian powerhouse, Shaktar Donetsk in a UEFA Champions League group stage clash.
The Spanish giant, despite parading a star-studded side could not breach the Ukrainians’ defense and had their task complicated when Ukrainian forward, Danylo Sikan scored a beautiful header in the 40th minute of the match to hand his team a precious lead.
All efforts made by the Spanish side to restore parity was unsuccessful. It could have even gone from bad to worse for them when Brazilian forward, Newerton scored for the Ukrainians in the 87th minute but his effort was chalked off because of an offside call.
FC Barcelona remain top of the group but are now levelled on points with FC Porto and three points ahead of Shaktar Donetsk. With two matches left, the Spanish cannot afford to slip up when they face FC Porto and Royal Antwerp in the final group matches.
Meanwhile, Norwegian and Manchester City forward, Erling Haaland bagged a brace as Manchester City hammered Young Boys 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium. English midfielder, Phil Foden scored the other goal for the English side.
Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata bagged a brace each as Atletico Madrid put Scottish champions, Celtic to the sword at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid. The home team ran out 6-0 winners against the hapless Scottish side.
