Ten students of a senior secondary school in a school in Ogun State are in police custody for allegedly beating up their teacher for not allowing one of them to cheat while invigilating an examination exercise.
The incident took place on Tuesday at Isanbi Comprehensive High School, Ilisan-Remo, in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun state.
According to reports, the assaulted teacher Mr Kolawole Shonuga while invigilating the an examination in Senior Secondary School one (SS1) Art class, caught one of the students, Ashimi Adebanjo engaging in examination malpractices and seized his paper.
Feeling offended by his teacher’s decision, Ashimi Adebanjo reportedly mobilized his fellow students, ambushed the teacher at the school gate, tore his clothes and beat him severely.

The police spokesperson in the state, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the students were arrested after Mr Shonuga reported a case of alleged assault at the Remo Police Division but did not confirm whether the students have been arraigned in court.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Ogun state, Felix Agbesanwa condemned the actions of the students and demanded that justice be served.
He said, “The incident is true and I have been briefed. Our stand is that any student who raises his hand against his teacher should face the wrath of the law. There’s no going back on that. No student must raise his against the teacher, whether Ogun Teach teachers or permanent teachers, a teacher is a teacher.”
