Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure put up a stellar performance at home against high flying Doma United to earn a convincing 2-0 victory amidst tributes to their assistant kit manager who lost his life because of the attack suffered by the team on their way to Benin for a league match.
The team wore shirts branded with photographs of the late Assistant Kit Manager for their pre match formalities before trading tackles with a Doma United side that are having an impressive start to the season.
The Akure Gunners took the lead in the 19th minutes through an Emmanuel Isaac strike and saw out the first half holding to the slim lead much to the delight of the home team and their fans.
It did not take long for the home team to double their lead in the second half as Olufemi Opeyemi put the ball inside the net much to the delight of the home team and their supporters.
They were able to fend off their visitors’ attacks as they hold on to secure a morale boosting win that pushed them to eight position on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table.
Despite the loss, Doma United remain second on the log but could slip to third if Lobi Stars pick up maximum points against Niger Tornadoes today.
