Super Eagles invitee, Promise Awosanmi fired Sunshine Stars to a precious 1-0 win over Lobi Stars to return the Akure based club back to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL)
The encounter which took place at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium Ijebu-Ode saw the Akure Gunners seeking redemption after losing their early season impressive form to endure a poor run of form which led to the resignation of their former handler Kennedy Boboye.
The first half of the match was a bit scrappy as neither team could hit the back of the net until the referee blew his whistle and ended the half goalless.
However, in the second half Super Eagles invitee, Promise Awosanmi produced a. moment of magic as he scored the match first goal which was the winner from a long-range free-kick in the 48th minute.
As the game continued, both teams had opportunities to put the ball inside the net but those opportunities were squandered and the match stayed as it was with only Awosanmi’s goal separating both side.
In the 75th minute, Sunshine Stars Goalkeeper Abdulateef Ishola showed his shot stopping prowess when he denied Lobi Stars a clear goal scoring chance to keep his team in the lead.
Both teams were unable to outdo each other in the remainder of the encounter as the home team kept the maximum points.
Sunshine Stars coach Bobola Akinfolarin commended his players for their spirited efforts in ensuring that the three points were kept in the kitty.
Akinfolarin added that the victory was the collective effort of the crew, management, players and the supporters of the team.
He said: “This game with Lobi Stars has come and gone, all we need now is to focus on our next match against Enyimba International FC in Aba.”
Lobi Stars Technical Adviser and former Super Eagles captain, Daniel Amokachi disclosed that his side had a decent game saying it was unfortunate that they could not find the back of the net.
“We just have to go back to the drawing board and make necessary corrections.”
Amokachi commended the match officials for a job well done and gave thumbs up to NPFL organizers for improving the league.
