Sunshine Stars of Akure thrashed Kwara United of Ilorin 4-2 in their week 27 clash of the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
This victory came after the club’s board issued a three-match ultimatum to the coaching crew, team Manager and others to fix their poor run of form or face sanctions.
The management made it clear that both the coaching crew and other backroom staff must improve their performance in the next three games or face sanctions which could mean their exit from the club.
With the ultimatum, Sunshine Stars went into the match against Kwara United knowing that only victory will appease the board and delivered that in excellent fashion as Liman Ahmadu bagged an hat trick to secure the much needed win.
Sunshine Stars midfielder, Liman Ahmadu became the second player to score a hat trick in Nigeria Premier Football League this season to help the Akure Gunners ease their relegation worries.
Sunshine Stars head coach Bobola Akinfolarin commended his players for their resilience in coming back from 1-2 to secure victory over Kwara United in Ogun state.
Akinfolarin stressed that his side would not relent until they exit the relegation zone, acknowledging the challenges of playing without getting desired results.
“We are working seriously on our defence to ensure we stop conceding goals, both home and away.
“With the support of God, our fans, and all stakeholders, we are optimistic about exiting the red zone.”
Meanwhile, Kwara United coach, Tunde Sanni expressed his disappointment over his team’s defensive collapse.
“We have never conceded this many goals since the beginning of the league. I am confused and not happy with the outcome of the game.
“Look at the goals we conceded; I can’t explain what went wrong. I don’t feel right at the moment.”
Sunshine Stars will next visit Lafia to face Nasarawa United and will be hoping to secure a massive win away from home to continue their steady rise up the table and avoid sanctions from the club’s management.
