Sunshine Stars of Akure continued their fight against relegation as they secured an hard-fought 1-1 draw against Nasarawa United at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday.

Sunshine Stars’ right full back Yusuf Olowoshile was sent off for a second bookable offense during the encounter which made life more difficult for the visitors who were fighting to stay in the Nigeria Premier Football League next season.

Nasarawa United scored as early as the 4th minute through Idris Ajila but Sunshine Stars staged a spirited fight back to ensure they came back into the match.

Liman Ahmadu thought he had leveled up for Sunshine Stars in the 18th minute following his long range strike but the Solid Miners’ goalkeeper, Detan Ogundare saved brilliantly.

He continued in similar fashion and eventually cancelled out Nasarawa United’s goal in the 32nd minute after receiving a pass from Waheed Adebayo.

Sunshine Stars goalkeeper, Ishola Abdulateef played an important role in ensuring they left Lafia with a point as he prevented the host from scoring more goals.

Sunshine Stars head Coach Bobola Akinfolarin hailed his team’s spirited effort which saw them come from a goal down to secure a point against Nassarawa United in Lafia.

“We will continue to approach every game as they come; great game we had today.”

Sunshine Stars will next play host to Plateau United at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
