After a barren first half, Sunshine Stars took the lead courtesy of a strike from forward, Duke Osimaga in the 51st minute of the encounter.
The Akure Gunners would have been dreaming of returning to their base with all three points in the bag until Alex Oyowah scored in the fifth minute of added time to snatch a point for the home side.
Sunshine stars are currently placed 12th on the NPFL table after picking up eight points from 7 matches while Rivers United are 8th with 9 points from the same number of matches.
